Championing Excellence Through Education

This July, we championed a culture of excellence in the name of education, coming together with some amazing teachers during our first Legends and Learning Leadership Graduate Course.

Thank you to all of the amazing teachers who joined us for this education experience!

We want to thank Black Hills State University for partnering with us in creating the Legends and Learning Graduate Leadership Course Ed 692 to support South Dakota teachers in utilizing our program–The Legends and Learning Program–in their classrooms this fall.

During this three-day educational experience, kindergarten – 5th-grade teachers worked with Dr. Michelle Hovland, Legends and Learning Program Manager, to learn more about inspiring future leaders in the classroom.

Dr. Hovland introduced teachers to the program and teacher resource materials. Together they participated in the program’s lesson plans to better understand how they can establish the program in their classrooms across the state.

Participation in this leadership course offered attendees one graduate credit if they registered, participated, and received a grade.

The South Dakota Hall of Fame’s Legends and Learning Program utilizes the rich histories of eighteen (18) state Legends, which are embedded into a teacher resource that can be easily included in a variety of curricula. The Legends are select Champions of Excellence who have been inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame. Meet the Legends here.

This course is directly relevant for 4th-grade teachers and can benefit kindergarten through 5th-grade teachers as well.
